The Labyrinth Worm Amigurumi
Jim Henson's The Labyrinth is my all-time favourite movie; I think it's where my love of David Bowie stems from. I love the puppetry, the creatures, the costumes, Sarah's journey... everything.
Whilst browsing for ideas of my next crochet project, I came across this pattern for the little worm that Sarah meets when she first enters the labyrinth and knew I had to try making him. I wasn't sure what I'd do with a little worm, but I knew I had a space on the wall that needed filling, so I wanted to try and make him into a little mounted trophy head. I stuck to the pattern for the most part, but half way through the third 'bump' in his body, I stopped and switched colours to start making a mount, I also changed the eyes a little to make them more life like, and I could not be more pleased with how he turned out!
I made a little banner and stitched ''Ello' onto it to add underneath his head, and to finish it off I added a pom-pom ribbon around the edge, which was actually from the gift wrap on a Lush gift set that I got for Christmas.
This has been the most fun project I've done so far; I learned new techniques that I hadn't used before when doing his eyes and hair, and can't wait to apply them to future projects! I'm proud to have him on my wall for all to see!

How much will you hate me if I tell you I have never watched Labyrinth?
ReplyDeleteLots... haha, you're missing out! It probably wouldn't hold the same impact watching it for the first time now - it's 29 years old, so will look pretty dated - but you still have to watch it! x
